Great topic. This comes up periodically with hubby. When he's feeling really "persecuted" by me, he states "I knew it, you hate the JW's". No, I don't hate each and every JW...I mostly feel sorry for them. What I hate is the WTBTS that has brainwashed so many people into throwing their lives away for such foolishness. Too bad most dubs can't see the grey for the black & white.

JUST WHEN YOU THOUGHT YOU HEARD IT ALL!!! THIS IS SICK!!!
by Lady Liberty inmy mother called me last night and shared with me something my dad just discovered in doing some research on the internet.
it is out of the book published by the wathchtower in 1966, entitled, "life everlasting in freedom of the sons of god".. my parents have the book, and listen to what was written about adam and bestiality.... page 45, para.
before god created anything new, a woman, god left the man free to determine whether there was a suitable companion for him among all the lower animals.

I'm not nor never have been a JW, but I've attended one meeting and one funeral talk with my husband. We have two daughters, one who is 11 (mine from a prior relationship) and one who is 2. The 11-year-old was just bored to death and we laughed privately together that we couldn't keep up with all the bible flipping and we didn't know for sure what order the books were in...
The funny story is that during the funeral talk, I gave my bible to my 2-year-old to keep her occupied and at the end when we stood up to sing, I took it away. Well, she loudly protested by saying "READ the BIBLE!". Her father beamed and a few dubs around us turned and smiled, like, "what a great child, she's 2 and wants to read the bible". I laughed because since her dad reads the bible so much she sometimes calls any book "bible", so, she could have been holding a Stephen King novel and shouted the same thing! We had a good laugh about it.

Your story reminded me of my funny-cat-in-the-bed story: My cat was sleeping on my chest. I turned to sleep on my side and slammed him into the wall. It was so loud it woke me up. Needless to say, he was not happy with me.

This is the argument my dad used to justify "new light"
by marmot ini was talking with my dad the other week and i revealed my doubts (well, not doubts really, conviction) that noah's flood didn't cover the earth.
he tried the usual, first he printed up all the stuff on the flood that he could find on the wt cd (even though i told him that i already read everything the society has ever written about the flood) and when that failed to convince me he brought out the ol' trust in jehovah(tm) line .
plus, he said that since i was so enamored with science to disprove the flood i should consider how science doesn't have the same position on certain subjects compared to the past and that it's based on progressive understanding.

There was an interesting show about the flood on the History channel. I don't remember all of it, but the gist of the show was that the Holy Bibley account was probably based on other stories from that time and that it was probably about an Assyrian (I'm not sure that that was the nationality though) merchant who rode out a local flood in a sea south of Mt. Arrarat. It was very interesting. I hope they show it again soon. Sorry I don't have more details...I didn't take notes!

Chilvary, Women's Rights and Striking a Woman
by coolhandluke inbefore i start this, i under no circumstance condone striking another human especially a woman except for in self defense.. with that stated i was bred to believe and still do that it is my responsibility to protect the women in my life.
i try to teach a measure of self defense to my sisters daughters and almost every girlfriend and female friend that i've ever had.
the following thoughts were produced from a discussion with my ex girlfriend.

As a woman, I am teaching my girls that if you hit someone, you should expect to get hit back. I think men are justified in hitting women if the women hit them first (I'm not talking about abuse situations here...don't lambaste me!).

Ever the voice of reason, Scully. Agreed. Fixing the symptom is the easy way out though...root cause analysis takes initiative and time.
